The Prince Mohamed bin Fahd Stadium in Dammam witnessed a nail-biting encounter on Thursday, May 16th, as Al-Khaleej held high-flying Al-Ittihad to a thrilling 1-1 draw in the Saudi Pro League.

The first half was dominated by Al-Ittihad, who looked determined to extend their winning streak. Their efforts were rewarded in the dying moments of the first half as Muhannad Al-Shanqeeti found the back of the net, sending the travelling Ittihad fans into a frenzy. However, the celebrations were short-lived.

Just as the whistle was about to blow for halftime, Al-Khaleej clawed their way back into the match with a dramatic equalizer. Mohamed Sherif’s goal initially appeared to be ruled offside. However, a VAR review overturned the decision, sending the home crowd into a state of euphoria and leaving the score level at 1-1 going into the second half.

The second half continued with both teams pushing for the winning goal. Al-Ittihad, desperate to regain the lead, pressed relentlessly. However, Al-Khaleej’s resolute defense stood firm, thwarting every attack thrown their way. The home side also had their chances, but they couldn’t find a way past the Ittihad goalkeeper.

As the final whistle blew, the score remained deadlocked at 1-1. While Al-Ittihad will be disappointed not to secure all three points, Al-Khaleej deserves immense credit for their fighting spirit and late first-half goal. This draw keeps their hopes of a strong finish to the season alive.
