Mark your calendars! AlUla, Saudi Arabia, is set to host the inaugural World Championship for International Camel Endurance on May 4th, 2024. This prestigious event boasts a total prize pool exceeding SAR 2 million, making it a major competition for camel riders worldwide.
The race itself will be a test of both camel and rider. It’s a 16-kilometer course, divided into two challenging 8-kilometer stages with a 30-minute rest period in between. Only the top 20 male and 15 female participants from the initial stage will qualify for the final round. The combined best timings from both stages will determine the ultimate winners.
This championship celebrates excellence in camel racing for both men and women. The victors in each category will be awarded a grand prize of SAR 500,000 each. Additionally, the remaining prize money will be distributed amongst the top 10 finishers in each category.
The International Camel Racing Federation (ICRF) officially launched this event during their third General Assembly held last September in Taif. They expressed their gratitude to Saudi Arabia for hosting this historic first edition of the World Championship.
