The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque successfully adorned the holy Kaaba with a brand new Kiswa in a traditional ceremony.

Expert Craftsmen Replace the Kiswa

A highly skilled team of 159 craftsmen from the King Abdulaziz Complex for Holy Kaaba Kiswa meticulously carried out the replacement. Divided according to their expertise, the team efficiently dismantled the old Kiswa and installed the new one on the holy structure’s sides, roof, and door.

The Kiswa: A Work of Art and Symbol of Reverence

The new Kiswa, a breathtaking 14 meters tall and weighing 1,350 kilograms, is a stunning display of Islamic artistry. Made from 1,000 kilograms of raw silk dyed black on-site, the Kiswa features intricate embroidery with gold and silver threads.

The Kiswa Replacement Process

The replacement involved a fascinating process. Each side of the Kaaba was raised individually, allowing the new Kiswa to be carefully unfolded over the old covering. The team then secured the new side at the top and bottom before repeating the process for all four sides. Finally, the belt and corners were meticulously sewn into place.

The King Abdulaziz Complex for Holy Kaaba Kiswa employs a team of roughly 200 highly trained Saudi citizens, including craftsmen, administrators, and specialists. This state-of-the-art facility boasts various departments dedicated to every stage of Kiswa creation, from dyeing and weaving to embroidery, belt-making, and assembly. The complex even features the world’s largest sewing machine specifically designed for this purpose.
