This year’s Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia is set to see a futuristic twist with the introduction of flying taxis and drones for pilgrim transportation. During a press conference, the Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics, Saleh Al Jasser, announced this exciting development.

These cutting-edge technologies aim to revolutionize the Hajj experience, offering pilgrims a smoother and more efficient way to navigate the holy sites. Several transportation companies are vying to provide the best solutions for future Hajj seasons.

Saudi Arabia is taking the lead in embracing these advancements. The upcoming Hajj will witness the largest deployment of flying taxis and drones ever seen at the pilgrimage.

Plans to test flying taxis were announced last year. Saudi Arabian Airlines, also known as Saudia, is working towards offering flying taxi services to transport pilgrims between Jeddah airport and hotels in Mecca. The airline has ambitious plans to acquire 100 electric vertical take-offs and landing (eVTOL) aircraft to facilitate this service.

These electric aircraft, called Lilium jets, are high-tech and environmentally friendly. Once operational, they will whisk pilgrims from Jeddah airport to designated landing spots near the Grand Mosque and other holy sites in Mecca, both during the Hajj and Umrah seasons.
